Go Boston 2030 — the Future of Boston Transportation

When Feinberg & Alban PC was founded more than 70 years ago, Boston was a relatively small city. Its explosive population growth has led to congestion on our roadways that can compromise safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. We need to start planning today to improve future transportation. Go Boston 2030 is a program that sets crucial goals and establishes the means of accomplishing those goals through the year 2030 and beyond.

Our firm supports this forward-thinking program. We constantly witness the suffering of our clients who have been injured in preventable car wrecks. We strive to make the streets safer while helping our injured clients recover.

What is Go Boston 2030?

Go Boston 2030 is described as “a City of Boston initiative that envisions a bold transportation future for the City for the next five, 10, and 15 years.” The program began in 2015 with a draft Vision Framework based upon 5,000 public comments and the input of more than 600 people who participated in the project’s visioning lab. Bostonians shared their priorities and ideas for transportation in the city, which were used to develop the final Vision and Action Plan released in March 2017.

Boston Today presents the summary of the current state of Boston transportation and actionable solutions created for the Vision and Action Plan. Highlights include:

  • More than half of Bostonians commute by bike, foot or public transit instead of taking a car to work.
  • Mode of transportation varies depending upon the neighborhood and access to options.
  • Most auto accidents occur in areas characterized by wider roads, more vehicles and higher speed limits.
  • In good news for cyclists, Boston’s expanding bicycle network has improved safety.
  • The per capita mileage driven in Boston has dropped by 10 percent.
  • Interstates remain the most congested roadways in Boston, leading to longer delays than local roads.

Our firm has carefully studied the Vision and Action Plan and Boston Today reports to gain insight that helps us build our clients’ cases and contribute our ideas for preventing Boston auto accidents.
