5 Common Accidents that Happen to Construction Site Bystanders

Construction sites are dangerous. As a result, construction workers routinely suffer a variety of different injuries. However, when they suffer injury, they can file a workers compensation claim, or possibly a claim against a responsible third party such as the manufacturer of faulty equipment.

But what happens if you sustain an injury while walking near a construction site?  Only an experienced personal injury attorney can provide you with the assistance you need.

Below are five common accidents that happen to construction site bystanders:

  1. Hit by a vehicle. Many different types of vehicles from cranes and backhoes to bulldozers and large trucks are used to create and construct buildings. If not used properly, these vehicles can maim and kill bystanders.
  2. Gravity-related accident. Scaffolding, cranes, and objects on top of beams and buildings can cause traumatic brain injuries and death if not properly secured.
  3. Hazardous materials accident. Workers must handle chemicals and hazardous materials in a safe manner and away from the public. Additionally, hazardous smoke can cause damages to the lungs, eyes, and faces of nearby pedestrians.
  4. Slip and fall accident. Tools, equipment, and debris can cause slip and fall accidents if left carelessly about. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, slip and fall accidents are the number one cause of traumatic brain injury.
  5. Ruptured eardrum. Bystanders may suffer from ruptured eardrums if constantly subjected to loud noise pollution from construction machinery.

While construction sites are notorious for being hazardous, you should not have to sustain an injury as a bystander. If you or someone you love suffers a construction site injury, seek legal aid immediately.
